Barbican Estate
The Barbican Estate in London is a landmark example of Brutalist architecture, designed by the architectural firm Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. Built between the 1960s and 1980s on a site devastated by WWII bombing, the estate was conceived as a utopian vision for urban living. The estate includes residential towers, an arts centre, schools, and gardens, all designed to create a self-contained community. Its bold design and ambitious scale have made it both iconic and controversial in architectural history.
